Ampere
Amperes, sometimes known as amps, are units of measurement for the flow of electricity in the form of an electric current. They achieve this by counting the number of electrons that pass through a certain point each second. A garden hose is a common example used to demonstrate how amps work. The units of measurement for the amount of water flowing through the hose are amps. The stronger the stream, the more litres per minute flow via the hose. Alternatively, as the number of electrons travelling through a certain location per second increases, so do the amps.
Watt
Watts are a unit of measurement for the amount of energy created when amps and volts are combined. In this instance, this is the amount of water passing through the hosepipe. We now know that the higher the wattage, which is a combination of electrical potential and flow, the greater the power and output. The higher the wattage of a microwave, for example, the faster it will cook your meal.
How to convert amps to watt
The power equation, that says as I = P E, where P is power measured in watts, I is current measured in amps, and E is voltage measured in volts, may be used to convert amperes to wattage.
There are three types of conversion in amps to watt calculation
1. DC
Power P in wattage equals current I in amperage multiplied by voltage V in volts.
2. Single-phase alternating current (AC)
The power factor PF multiplied by the phase current I in amps multiplied by the RMS voltage V in volts equals the power P in watts.
3. Three phase alternating current (AC)
- Line-to-line voltage calculation
The power P in watts is equal to three times the power factor PF multiplied by the phase current I in amps multiplied by the line to line RMS voltage V[L-L] in volts.
- line-to-neutral voltage calculation
The power P in watts is calculated by multiplying the power factor PF by the phase current I in amps by the line to neutral RMS voltage V[L-N] in volts.
